WHAT IS THE POINT OF LEARNING FACTS?
Memorizing Facts – The goal is that all students memorize the basic multiplication facts from 0x0 to 9x9 by the end of their third grade year. It is normal that students will first become proficient with some of the “easier” facts, like multiplying by 1,2, and 5. They can use the facts they know to figure out the harder ones by “decomposing” (or breaking apart) one of the factors.
examples: 7x6 = 7x5 + 7x1 = 35 + 7 = 42
8x4 = 8x2 + 8x2 = 16 + 16 = 32
